3-Color Changing vs Triac Dimming: Full Difference Guide
When buying modern LED ceiling lights, pendant lights, and wall lamps, most buyers encounter two core lighting modes: 3-color changing and Triac dimming. Many people mistakenly think they are the same or that color-changing lights can also dim brightness. In fact, they are two completely different systems.
To help you choose the most suitable lighting for bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and study rooms, we have created a simple but detailed guide to explain how these two functions work, their pros and cons, and their best-use scenarios.
1. What Is 3-Color Changing Light (Fixed Color Temperature)
Our default lamp configuration is 3-color changing. This function only changes the light color (color temperature) — the brightness always stays 100% fixed.
- Warm Light (3000K) — soft, warm, cozy atmosphere for relaxation and night ambiance
- Neutral Light (4000K) — natural, balanced daylight for daily home use
- White Light (6000K) — bright, clean white light ideal for working, reading and cleaning
You can switch colors simply by turning the wall switch ON and OFF repeatedly. No remote control is needed.
Advantages: Easy operation, no extra accessories, richer home atmosphere, suitable for decorative lighting.
Limitations: Cannot adjust brightness. The light is always full bright.
2. What Is Triac Dimming Light (Single-Color Brightness Control)
Triac dimming is a professional mainstream dimming technology used in high-end home lighting. Unlike color-changing lights, Triac lamps have only one fixed color temperature and can adjust brightness freely.
Triac dimming supports stepless brightness adjustment from 1% to 100% light output. You can make the light extremely dim for night mode, medium brightness for daily use, or full brightness for detailed work.
Advantages: Smooth dimming, no flicker, eye-friendly, perfect for bedroom sleeping mode, flexible brightness for different moods.
Limitations: Single fixed light color, cannot switch warm/white tones.
3. Core Difference Comparison
3-Color Changing = Change Light Color (Brightness Fixed)
Triac Dimming = Change Brightness (Light Color Fixed)
