I Bought a Lamp Because I Was Tired of Feeling Like I Live in a Hospital

I wasn’t planning on buying a lamp. I swear I wasn’t.

But every night when I turned on that damn ceiling lamp, the whole room was lit up like an X-ray. I sat on the bed, under that cold white light, feeling like I had to fill out forms and see a doctor at any time. There was no "relaxation" at all. It was like being hospitalized, but it was just a "ward" where I was alone.

So one night when I couldn't sleep, I opened the web page and searched for "soft warm table lamp". I didn't think too much and saw this, a table lamp called Ceramic Fabric Table Lamp, with a black ceramic base and a beige cloth cover. It was simple, not fancy, and not expensive. When I clicked on the details page, I just thought to myself: "Okay, it doesn't look disgusting."

It arrived in about a month. It was a little heavier than I thought, and it felt "solid" in my hand. The matte surface of the ceramic was actually quite comfortable to touch, unlike the plastic spray paint stuff. The fabric of the lampshade is also very gentle, without any plastic smell. After installing the light bulb and turning it on, it actually feels a bit textured.

It’s not the fake texture of “Internet celebrity lighting”, but… you know the kind that makes the room quiet all of a sudden. The light is neither strong nor dark, just right, unlike the cold white light. When I turn it on to browse my phone, read a book, or daydream, I suddenly feel that the house is not so strange.

I originally bought it to give the bedside some soft light, but now I watch TV, soak my feet, and write at night. I even moved it to the living room and placed it there for one night two days ago. When my friends came to my house for dinner, everyone thought I had specially arranged some “atmosphere corner”. I didn’t say it, but I just didn’t want to turn on the ceiling light in the living room anymore.

It’s not the kind of design that amazes people at first glance, but it’s comfortable, like the first piece of furniture that “understands you” that I bought after moving into a new house.
